Stephanie Gordon attended McGill University where she gained a First Class Honours Degree in Political Science, the University of the West Indies and the University of London, where she was awarded the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) (Hons.) and the Master of Laws (LL.M), respectively. Stephanie was called to the Bar of Jamaica in 1983 and is a life member of the Guild of Graduates of the University of the West Indies.
Stephanie was a Partner with the law firm Lex Caribbean where she served as the Country Managing Partner for that firm’s Jamaica practice for 7 years, until September 2010. She was also the General Counsel for Jamaica’s Financial Services Commission (FSC), regulator of the Jamaican securities and insurance industries.
As Legal Counsel to one of Jamaica’s largest banks, she gained significant experience in banking, securities and corporate commercial transactions, she has acted as legal advisor and local counsel in several corporate lending transactions, including syndicated loans and capital markets financing structures. Additionally, she has significant experience in the local real estate and construction development sectors.
Over the years, Stephanie has been retained by several local and international clients seeking opinions on regulatory compliance in the banking, securities and insurance industries in Jamaica as well as serving as Special Local Counsel to the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) on consortium lending transactions to private sector borrowers in Jamaica.
Recently she has been engaged as legal consultant on assignments related to the financial services industry in Jamaica in the public and private sectors.
Stephanie practices in the areas of Corporate and Commercial Law, Insolvency and Restructuring, Capital Markets, Property Development and Conveyance (Real Estate Law).
